University of Texas at El Paso- Jewelry and Metals Department Blog
The Project:
During the Spring of 2015 the Advanced Jewelry and Metals students conducted one on one interviews with the artists from the El Paso Museum of Art's exhibit Body Art: Contemporary El Paso Jewelry. Students worked in teams to record/transcribe the interviews. The teams were responsible for contacting the artist, setting up a meeting time, conducting /recording and documenting the interview and collecting any other supplemental information. About the Exhibition: Body Art celebrates contemporaneous local expressions of the jeweler’s art, a form with an exciting and vibrant past and present in El Paso. The principal center of jewelry production and training in the area has been and remains the University of Texas at El Paso, whose Metals Program was directed for many years by Wiltz Harrison and since then by Rachelle Thiewes, who came from Illinois in 1976 to replace Harrison at his retirement. -Museum of Art El Paso For more info Please visit- http://www.elpasoartmuseum.org Thank you! UTEP Jewelry and Metals would like to thank the El Paso Museum of Art along with the Educational Curator Elisabeth Sommer, Ph.D for helping facilitate these connections between UTEP and the participating Body Art: Contemporary El Paso Jewelry artists. As the current Visiting Assistant Professor in Jewelry and Metals I would like to thank each artist for their participation and willingness to help advance the education of our students at UTEP. This exhibition at the El Paso Museum of Art affords UTEP Jewelry and Metals students a rare and fantastic opportunity to make personal connections with talented local artists and creates connections within the greater El Paso Arts and Crafts communities. - Demitra Thomloudis, Visiting Assistant Professor |
